Odd dash light in '67 MGB GT?
This odd light was installed when I got the car, but it did nothing. The bulb and the rest of the mechanism were not present, and only this ground wire was attached. I removed it this morning and put...

? If you don't have a switch you don't have overdrive.

ohlord, I'm aware that simply adding a switch doesn't magically give the car overdrive. The engine and the transmission have been out of the car, repaired, and put back, so we know what's in it. Let's...

In reply to # 3632259 by carbus My original question remains, "What the heck was the purpose of this light in the dash?" The previous owner probably coudln't afford an original o/d switch to fill the...

Steven, It's possible it never had any original purpose, but why would they go through the trouble of running the ground wire over to the back of the tachometer and ground it there? Kinda weird. In...

certainly an aftermarket light someone installed to plug the hole. That overdrive switch is the stuff dreams are made of. Every MGB I have owned never had overdrive and I have always wanted it. I...

I'm going to get the Heritage certificate. Maybe the car had overdrive originally. The engine and transmission in there now are not original. I'll keep you posted...

Steven, Sorry about that. I do see now I hadn't included that pertinent info. about the wiring to the tach.

My '67 GT had a plastic plug in that hole, so I think your DPO must have put the light in for an individual purpose that will remain unknown, unless you find some add-on device that used an indicator...

It's unusual to just have a lamp, usually there would be some kind of switch to turn on whatever the lamp is indicating somewhere. Maybe its a warning lamp for an add on low oil pressure sender, or it...

We have a local ACE Hardware here that has every nut, bolt etc. you can imagine. I would find a store like that and buy a hole plug that would look good in the hole. Use black wrinkle pain and paint...

I think putting in the o/d switch is the best solution. You could have it wired so that when you switch it to overdrive Bachman-Turner plays through the car's speakers :)

Carl, that was the indicator light that came on when the ejector seat was armed. A rare factory option. Use it cautiously. RAY

George, an MGB is a very small car. It doesn't take that long to wax it. RAY

The 74 B I bought has an odd light as well. It's located or attached to the reset knob for the trippmeter under the dash. I have no idea what it's for except that it's red in color and faces downward....

Greg, when I purchased my '67 B, I noticed that it didn't come from the factory with hazard flasher lights. The wiring harness had a provision for a sub harness, but no one offered it. I had access to...
